What is Tomato Rice?

  • Tomato rice is a rice recipe which can be prepared using those ingredients which are readily found in the home. Tomatoes are the star of this. This dish is unique because of the sour taste and the health benefits of tomatoes.
Ingredients Quantity

  • White pepper (boiled and cooled) 1 cup
  • 3 medium sized tomato (chopped)
  • Onion
  • Ginger paste, garlic 1 tablespoon
  • green chili 1 slit open.
  • Mustard 1/2 tablespoon
  • Final dal 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin 1/2 tablespoon.
  • 1/4 tablespoon turmeric powder
  • Chili powder 1/2 tablespoon (optional)
  • Taniya powder 1 tab
  • Salt
  • Oil 2 tablespoons

Preparation:

1. Cooking the rice

  • Wash the white gram and make it as usual rice.
  • When cooked, separate and make sure that the rice is not sticky and keep it cold.

Step 2: Seasoning

  • Heat the oil in a heavy frying-pan.

  • Add mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds and season it.

  • Add green chillies and curry leaves.

  • Add onion, ginger and garlic paste and fry til well done.

step 3: Tomato mix

  • Add tomatoes, cut in pieces and fry until mashed up.
  • Add turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder and salt and mix well.
  • Put the previously cooked rice into the sauteed tomatoes mixture.
  • Stir well until the spices cover all the rice.

cooking time:

  • Ready In – 10 minutes
  • Preparation Time – 15 minutes.
  • Prep/Ready In – 25 minutes

Tips on Cooking:

  •  When cooled down the rice will not stick.
  •  You may also add a pinch of garam masala powder, in case you wish it to be spicier.
  •  When it is made towards kids, then you can cut down on the chili powder.
  • This rice will attain additional flavor when roasted cashews and garlic chips are added to it.
  •  In case the tomatoes are sour enough, a pinch of sugar may be added.

What to accompany with?

  • Curd, tiny pickle, fried potato, chilli pappadum
  • it will taste better with fried egg or chicken gravy

  • Tomato rice can also be taken in a tiffin box and journey food since it can last long without going bad. It is quick and easy, and it is an ideal quick lunch recipe among kids and office employees.
